  • Healthy Polar Bear Count Confounds Doomsayers  there are about 25,000 polar bears across Canada’s Arctic. “That’s likely the highest [population level] there has ever been.”—Paul Waldie, The Globe and Mail, 5 April 2012
The number of bears along the western shore of Hudson Bay, believed to be among the most threatened bear subpopulations, stands at 1,013 and could be even higher, according to the results of an aerial survey released Wednesday by the Government of Nunavut. That’s 66 per cent higher than estimates by other researchers who forecasted the numbers would fall to as low as 610 because of warming temperatures that melt ice faster and ruin bears’ ability to hunt. The Hudson Bay region, which straddles Nunavut and Manitoba, is critical because it’s considered a bellwether for how polar bears are doing elsewhere in the Arctic.
  • NASA’s James Hansen utterly discredited  James is the Tim Flannery of the United States.  This scoundrel has been manipulating the temperature record to show warming where there has been cooling and less ice where there has been more.  NASA climate scientists under leadership of Hansen have demonstrated nearly complete incompetence in forecasting, & they have tampered with data to try to hide their mispredictions.

In 1988, Hansen made three very famous forecasts (shown below) of temperature rise, based on high, medium and very low (Scenario C) CO2 production.

His forecasts were very poor, and indicate that he has greatly overestimated the effect of CO2 on the climate. The graph below overlays the most recent NASA global temperatures(red line) on Hansen’s predictions from 1988. The red circle shows 2012 temperature anomalies so far.

 

NASA reported temperatures show more of an increase than satellites do, but even the NASA temperatures fall below Scenario C - which essentially assumes that people stopped producing CO2 in the year 2000. Hansen’s own data invalidates his theory, yet he continues to ramp up his claims about the magnitude of global warming. This is the mark of a very poor scientist.

The decision to pull back from onshore wind farms comes after more than 100 backbench Conservative MPs mounted a rebellion against turbines blighting rural areas. 
it is understood senior Conservatives in the Coalition are behind a determination to scale back support for onshore wind power, amid fears the turbines are deeply unpopular in rural areas.

Sources said ministers are prepared to block major developments of onshore wind turbines under the new Localism Act that came into force last month.

There is also concern that subsidising so many different types of “green” energy is adding too much to energy bills.
They are also ready to reduce the £400 million per year in funding that goes to wind farms under the Renewable Obligation Certificate subsidy.
