Under a new Green future they are fazing out the gas R22 used in current air-conditioners with a product named R410A, however, the system pressures of R410A make it necessary for all equipment to be specifically made to work at these levels.

R410A was never designed for retrofitting existing R22 systems.

Newly designed R410A equipment generally employ thicker walled tubing, newly developed compressors, and use componentry capable of withstanding these high pressures.

What this means is soon you won’t be able to regas your air-conditioning unit and you can’t get it converted to this new gas.  You will have to throw away your current aircon and buy a new one.

*** New buyers beware ensure the new unit is approved to take R410A gas. ***

No one seems to be telling us about this and especially not the Government that have enforced this change, in compliance with the requirements written in the Montreal Protocol.

The new gas is under a far greater pressure than the presently used refrigerant and so we will find if a leak develops it will occur more often, it will never be a slow leak because of this pressure and it will mean the gas is a much higher price, which with the price of this and the thicker pipes and joints required to take the pressure a new Air-conditioner will cost a lot more.

All this in the name of a “New Green Future”……..Yeah right.
