MURRAY-DARLING BASIN STILL IN DROUGHT.
As we have watched the history making flows in the iconic, meandering Darling River fill the Menindee Lakes, Billabongs, Anna branches and then combine with the huge floods from Victoria and now the Murrumbidgee fill the Lower Lakes of the Murray and flow to sea; we could correctly assume that the long drought is over.
This is supported by the fact that most of the storages in the lower Basin are now overflowing or in the healthy shape of filling steadily.
However there remains in the Basin a much more damaging drought that is destroying our capacity to improve the situation for future generations.
It is the drought of truth and reason.
Truth, reason and common sense have been washed away in a flood of emotional environmentalism. Mostly championed by career academics and attention seeking Politicians and now embodied in a policy document delivered by the Murray-Darling Basin Authority.
The result of this imbalance is best summed up by the quote:
Our democratic decision making process is less at risk from what people do not know, than it is from what people do know that is false.
Surely, given all the knowledge and history we have at our disposal in relation to water and the Murray-Darling Basin, we could have a plan that would benefit all stakeholders, including “the environment.”
Why don’t we calmly recognize the assets we have in this food bowl region at present and just agree to do the following?
Ensure that the first priority for any water in each river in the system is to maintain stream flow so that all stock, domestic and town supplies can be maintained along its entire course.
Then given that Adelaide and adjacent towns will have to continue to rely on water from the Murray, we put in place an interstate agreement that provides for this.
As horticultural crops are established over several years and are also high return to water input, we should make them the third priority.
It would be prudent at this point to also provide a buffer against low inflows to ensure we could provide for these three water availability priorities for at least two more years.
If then and only then we allocated any remaining water on some type of pro rata basis to annual crop irrigators we should be able to make the most efficient use of our water and allow increased production in years of excess flow and decreased production in lean water years.
Surely we can stop the bickering and do something as simple as this.
Doesn’t that sound logical? Well guess what?
That is (with a few variations) exactly how water has been allocated for the last ninety-five years.
That is why the first three priorities were adequately provided on most of the rivers in the MDB during the just concluded worst drought in European history.
Truth is the system has been well managed by any rational assessment.
Truth is there is more wetland habitat in the MDB now than when Europeans arrived.
Truth is these wetlands are mostly maintained as permanent by man in stark contrast to Nature’s haphazard regime.
Truth is the lower lakes are a man-made problem and the biggest waste of fresh water in the system.
Truth is that the flow in the lower Murray has little to do with the Coorong.
Truth is we can improve outcomes for all species by increasing water conservation throughout the system to store excess water for use by all during droughts
Truth is the dams, weirs, run-off storages, channels and even some irrigated fields are the best habitat in the Basin for our aquatic species.
It is time these truths flowed across the plain of public opinion and washed away the misinformation that has been blinding our vision.
It is time for this drought of truth in the Murray-Darling Basin to also come to an end.
Pikey.

The raw truth is that most of the water diverted from the Murray from their northern end, is not by farmers but by other interests but to take from them would be to hurt the suburban voter and no politician comes with a spine but a rare few here and there.
The guide mentions a figure of $5.5B for water buybacks. The scheme of the great DR J J C Bradfield has a costing of only $3.5B, seems a no brainer to me!
the ANU scientists seem to be backing the passage of carbon pricing, and this is all about that issue, rather than jobs or the well being of the nation, including the MDB.
the scientists are all crying “AGW is going to kill us all”, when the “real” science proves these fraudsters are only in it (carbon tax) for the money, and not the good of the people, or the planet.
Green-activists have hijacked every level of science, except paleo-climateolgy. The truth has become irelevent, compared to the profits of the green economy and the funds it can provide to facilities such as the ANU. Its a joke.
Even today, Hillary Clinton continues to call for Australia to go ahead with a price on carbon, knowing full well that the US congress will be examining the science again in a new effort to allow full and open debate on the subject when the new house is seated, rather than put faith in the now well and trully damaged IPCC.
The Gillard gov’t is hell bent on destroying the Australian economy, using fabian socialistic policies and progressive liberal agendas to push them through………such as the price on carbon.
There can be no price on carbon, if the MDB is to survive………if a price on carbon is put in place, nothing but desert and ghost towns will remain……….but, thats what the mining companies are hoping for, after all.
The truth is, the region is full of natural resources. Mining companies will lobby government, who will play to the green agenda, for mining rights in the now “unmanned” farming lands. This is the beginning of the theft. The rivers are choked full of natural mineral deposits, which is why they refuse to flow with any equilibrium for the most part of their eqistance. The farmers are sitting on billions of dollars of wealth, and the government just wants to kick them off the land, impose a price on carbon, and let the chinese miners rip the lands apart anyway, as long as they have an environmental plan that the green-activists sign off on…..
The level of the scam, and the theft involved, only pales in comparison to the devaluation of the US dollar and the unpayable debt that nation now bares as a representation of socialist government agendas at the end of their life expectancy. The money has to run out, and now you see what all this green-activism has turned into. the organised bankrupting of nations via a social hub hinged on the common aim of protecting the globe from humanity……basically, you have to assume that all humans are the enemy to become a member, it’s that simple. 10;10 no pressure vidoe drives that point home, and hard. Humanity is the enemy, in the enviro-activists eye, and if my eyes don’t deceive me, farmers, especially beef farmers, are humans, and therefore, the “enemy’…… resource miners are cool though, according to the greens, because they give money to the activists on national television, for the sake of good will (in the business sense) and advertising..the planet comes a distant “no-where” in the thank you/acceptance speaches.
The MDBA is a government funded, ANU advised, corperate think tank, who’s only want, as I have tried to point out, although I’ve rambeld on quite a bit, is to make sure the public are forced to agree to, and accept, a price on carbon, as the ‘George Soros” types want imposed, so as to fund the new global currency, and ultimately, the new world order of inter-governmental authority, known alternatively as , her majesty’s United Nations…….this is the end game, and they must be stopped.
Politicians who oppose the price on carbon, will soon become targets for propaganda smears, and I fear, possibly worse……death threats and sabotage wouldn’t surprise me, as being a so called skeptic, Ive had these things directed at me. I can only feel sympathy for those in the public eye, who now stand opposed to the greed of the extreme-green-government of the UN.
I wish people like Rand Paul good luck, becuase it’s men like him that ensure the truth see’s the light of day. Without them, we all live in the darkness these monstors breed in, and we all know, how dark that can be.
As for Australia’s water, I say, heal the rainbow snake, and the rivers will have fish in them always…..it’s that simple.
Here are a few well chosen quotes form the hero ranks of the Green/Environmentalist movement. Says it all to me, I mean these are the people that the now politically powerful Greens in Australia take their cues from.
“Isn’t the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn’t it our responsiblity to bring that about?”
- Maurice Strong, founder of the UN Environment Programme
“A massive campaign must be launched to de-develop the United States. De-development means bringing our economic system into line with the realities of ecology and the world resource situation.”
- Paul Ehrlich, Professor of Population Studies
“We must make this an insecure and inhospitable place for capitalists and their projects. We must reclaim the roads and plowed land, halt dam construction, tear down existing dams, free shackled rivers and return to wilderness millions of acres of presently settled land.”
- David Foreman, co-founder of Earth First!
“Global Sustainability requires the deliberate quest of poverty, reduced resource consumption and set levels of mortality control.”
- Professor Maurice King
So I ask you again PM Gillard, “do you realise the price that you have made us all pay to keep the ALP in power?”
